Disturbance #1: Trying to equivocate the so-called hate speech of the draw Mohammed cartoon contest with the actions of the attackers.
Let me clue you in.
Hatred is not a crime.
Yep, I said it. Hatred is NOT a fucking crime. Hate is an emotion, and hate ~can~ be a motive if some other crime is attached to it, but hatred, in and of itself, is not a crime. NOR SHOULD IT EVER BE!
If you can't figure out why criminalizing thoughts and emotions is on the top of the list of bad ideas, I can't help your sorry ass. Yeah, it's ugly, yeah, it's disgusting, yeah, it means the very concept of "hate crimes" is fucked up. But it's also the truth.
Pamela Gellar is an obnoxious, provocative assclown. News flash, people: being an asshole isn't a crime.
Being an asshole: not a crime.
Loading up with rifles and body armor with intent of slaughtering an art show full of people drawing what you don't like: FUCKING CRIME!
There's a word for the sniveling hand-wringing of "why is she so hateful?" and "she shouldn't provoke them." It's called victim blaming. Stop it.
Disturbance #2: Were they ISIS? Maybe. What they did was suck. With assault rifles and body armor they managed to wound a single off-duty patrol officer before both being killed by another off-duty officer.
I realize the reality of a good man with a gun preventing a tragedy chaps the ass of folks whose belief lies in an opposing narrative. Tough. Deal with it.
Disturbance #3: The fact that it took a hate group to show even the modicum of guts necessary to have an event like this. Not only that, but the pissing and moaning of "cultural sensitivity" and "Islamaphobia" as lame excuses. Stop lying to yourselves, people. The word you're looking for is "fear." Comedy Central doesn't care that South Park uses Jesus as a rather lame talk show host, because all Christians have been known to do is complain when faced with blasphemy. Maybe boycott on a small scale. But gods forbid a post 9/11 cartoon depicts Mohammed, because then some Wahhabi asshole will start cutting animator's heads off in the parking lot.
It's a legit fear, in some ways. But it's still fear. Stop trying to put some sort of noble spin on it.
Disturbance #4: Stop referring to the shooters as misguided kids. This probably stems from some news reports of one of their mothers claiming her son was "brainwashed."
One of the shooters was 30. The other was 34. They might have been gullible, they might have been clueless. They were definitely crappy shooters. They were also grown-ass men.
I've been attacked by kids. The triggerman of the first car bomb I was ever hit with was 14 or so. Him, I had sympathy for. These two fuckers were grown-ass men. Fuck them.
That's all I got for now. Back to the grindstone.
