*sighs* ho boy...
So, for those of you just tuning in, a raid at what's being called a compound in New Mexico turned up six adults and eleven children. The compound itself had no utilities and looked like a third world shithole. The kids were all dirty, possibly emaciated and dehydrated.
The kids have all been placed in foster care. One man and two women have been released on house arrest. One man is still in custody, as there's an active warrant for his arrest in GA. The remaining woman is in ICE custody, as she's apparently a Haitian national who's been living here illegally for 20 years or so.
The man is wanted in GA for kidnapping his son in a custody dispute. A child's body discovered in the compound itself was just identified today as the son in question.
The raid turned up an AR rifle, 4 handguns, and an undisclosed amount of ammo. Essentially, what California newspapers call an arsenal and what people from Tennessee call a short weekend. There were apparently also books on combat effectiveness in the compound.
A foster parent of one of the children claims that the child spoke about being trained to shoot, including various tactical skills.
Oh, did I mention the adults involved are five African-Americans, one Haitian, and all practicing Muslims?
Cue the panic. I've had self-righteous postings on my feed for days about this.
Look, if you're going to read the news AND keep a functional brain in your head, you need to keep certain things in mind.
One of those things is that harm to children is a big red button for the bulk of functioning humanity.
Humans are Primates. Primates raise young communally. Primate young don't get eaten by predators because they're surrounded by adult apes, who didn't need to evolve claws because a punch that can blow a predator's kidney out through their asshole worked just as fucking well.
Which means when a story circulates about harm to children, people lose their fucking minds.
At any given shooting, I wait 48 hours, because it takes that long for the screaming to stop.
After the Parkland shooting? It took three weeks before I could get a word in edgewise for all the screaming about the children and how much blood was on my hands if i dared breathe a word.
Now that we all know about the big red button, stop and look at the first part of what I'd read.
Yeah, the compound looked like a third world shithole.
So did Ruby Ridge.
If this was an extended family of Appalachian moonshiners, nobody would blink twice at it.
Yeah, so the judge is a flaming Frisco liberal. So what?
Currently, there's a good case of child neglect against the pack of the adults. (And homicide by neglect in the case of the father of the boy, who is still in custody, I might add).
But I'll also point out that the allegations of training to commit school shootings comes from one foster parent of one of the 11 children.
I'm not going to go into what a cesspit the CPS system is, but I will point out that a lot of things can make one ineligible to become a foster parent. Being a clueless hoplophobe who doesn't know their ass from their elbow about guns ain't one of them.
Just add ignorance and prejudice and three-gun training looks an awful lot like shoot up a school training. Especially when it's heard by someone who loses their damn mind at the very thought of kids shooting anything, anywhere.
Yeah, it doesn't speak well that Wesley Crusher, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Moms demand submission, and all the rest of the gungrabbing crew haven't said shit about the case. But that's par for the course. Supposedly-oppressed-minority on supposedly-oppressed-minority violence makes a divide by zero error in a lot of their arguments. That's why it was somehow the NRA's fault that some asshole Jihadi wannabe shot up the Pulse Nightclub.
But screaming falsehoods and exaggerations from the other side of the arena don't help.
